With the sword of covid -19 swinging upon our heads, we were forced to enter the age of innovation and technology. Technology in education greatly impacts our education pattern because going to school is not an option anymore.
Technology was always a part of our education system, but it lived with us as a luxury, not a necessity. But after the Covid pandemic, this luxury became our necessity.
Technology in education has a lot of advantages, but it also comes with a bag of disadvantages. Let us discuss both because that’s the only way we can minimize the effects of Disadvantages.
12 Advantages of technology in education
1. Immersive learning
A good learning experience was never meant accomplished by drawing on chalkboards. No matter how much you try, you won’t show the entire class how much smaller our planet is than the sun or other planets. You’ll need quite good drawing skills and a lot of time. That’s why technology in education has eased up a lot of things for us. It saves up a lot of time and clears up the concept in one go.
2. A student’s choice
This generation is born and raised around technology. They know a lot about it than we do as technology has kept them interested in something, so they usually prefer technology in the classroom.
3. Access to behavioral data charts of students
Technology in education gave teachers access to their student’s behavioral charts. By the regular marks up of exams and attendance, it was made relatively easier to evaluate the weak aspects of students learning. This way, a teacher can pay more attention to turn their weak points into a stronger intellect.
4. Accessible to students living far away
Technology in education has done well for students living far away. It’s not just the classes that we need to get a degree, but also all the extra circular courses or skill teaching courses are available online. You can purchase them easily. Thanks to technology, you don’t have to walk up miles to learn. A is for Apple, and B is for Ball.
5. Personalized education
So far, technology has a good impact on the environment of the classroom. It serves as a function of helper to the teacher, enhancing a teacher’s capability to teach without losing his energy on the daily protocols.
As every class has a different learning temper, with techEd on hand, you can personalize the whole learning process according to the choices and needs of the class.
6. Easy and fun notes making
There are many fun notes making apps that’ll make this deadly boring task more fun than ever.
We all know memes and GIFs are fun when they relate to scientific facts and formulas. I have an app for you (Onenote).
One note is one of those fun apps through which you can digitally make notes, add video clips to notes, colors, stickers, and much more. And mind you, that’s just the edge of it that I described.
There are many more excellent apps and software that helps with the process of notes making.

7. Good response as compared to the on-campus experience
On-campus, experience is quite dull as compared to that of online teaching experience. We all know that this generation needs its phone more than any other necessity of life. This has also affected their education in a good way.
Online attendance, pre-recorded lectures, and online assignment submission have influenced students’ learning pace positively.
Funny, we should mention the assignment submission. It was easy to dodge our teacher by saying that “our assignment is complete, but we left it home.” Well, that ship has sailed and now if you are punctual you’ll be able to pass the class.
8. Blended learning environment
Change is what keeps a man from getting bored. We studied in an age where the school was a place that felt like a robotic camp most of the time. With the same boring teaching method and routine, the time surely passed slow and deadly.
But now, with the privilege of the latest research and technologies, there are more than dozens of teaching methods introduced, and none of them are found boring by the students.
9. Access to current information
Technology in education gives you access to the most recent research and experiments that you need to learn to keep yourself updated. With the textbook procedure, it won’t be possible.
It has also lowered the burden on the paper companies, which used to provide papers by deforestation. So to sum it up it has kind of an indirect effect on our environment also.
10 Disadvantages of technology in education
Technology is not all fun and time-efficient; it has some drastic side effects that need to be managed and cared for because they work by risking some important personalities and health traits of students as well as teachers.
Here are some of the examples of these negative effects.
1. Minimize face to face exposure
As technology revolutionaries, the whole classroom takes away some of the humanistic factors from it. For example, when everyone has their own equipment in school, they never get a chance to learn humanistic traits like sharing, helping, making friends, learning new things about new cultures, etc.
Also, in this lockdown situation and with the constant busy life of parents, the school used to be the only place where kids made friends and had an opportunity to interact with their age fellows. The online classes being the need of the time has decreased this privilege by the factor of 10.
2. Unreliable resources of learning
When students are asked to compete for their assignments without proper guidance, they can stumble upon unreliable information resources. Yes, the internet is filled with these kinds of stuff. As you have to pay for the authentic stuff, students tend to use the free source and then thrive upon the wrong information.
3. Replace the teacher
It’s a long catch, but technology can replace an actual teacher with the recorded curriculum and lectures.
4. Hard curriculum planning
As a teacher, while making a curriculum, you’ll have to keep up with the latest trends, terminologies, and most importantly, with the recent events in every field of education. This makes it quite hard to keep up with everything that happens.
5. Medical issues
Medical issues are the most crucial factor that we should look upon as a downside of technology education.
You see, screen time exceeds when the screen is used for studying and refreshment, for example, after a long lecture on your laptop and notes making on your tablet. Then you go to bed for relaxation and stare at the phone while surfing on all of your socials. When you are fed up, you go to the kitchen, get yourself something to eat, and eat it in front of the TV.

This is the average pattern of every student in quarantine. To reduce this toxic trend activity, students should manage their screen time and engage themselves in healthy activities.
Obesity is at an alarming rate in kids right now, and the only reason for that is too much attachment to technology rather than physically playing. As many games tend to teach you stuff, parents don’t mind their kids playing them. Playing outside was supposed to be a good source of getting exercise, but now it’s all online games.
Not getting much fresh air and release of energy, kids nowadays have developed many allergies and abnormal hormones, which causes their tantrums and rage fits.
7. Dependence on quick searches rather than reading a proper book
When having a problem while studies, the answer is always just one click away; you don’t have to read a full paper or a book to scrap up your desired answer or information. Yes, this process used to be a time taker, but we would learn so much by reading the background of the problem; it constantly improved our vocabulary and attention span.
8. Being expensive
Here comes the problem, yes to get the privilege of all the advantages of technology in the classroom, you will need to loosen up your wallet a lot, because guess what, technology is expensive. And it has become a necessity, so it’s an expensive requirement.
9. Opportunity to cheat
Students are more advanced in technology than the teachers. Because being born and raised around technology has given them that power, they can manipulate by using the common hacks to cheat. Teachers are usually unaware of these kinds of hacks. This leads the system to injustice.
Everything in this world has its good and bad sides. Luckily, we can reduce the effects of negative aspects of technology in education.
As we all know that diamond cuts diamond, right? Well, by that metaphor, we can limit screen time by installing such apps and software that keeps checking on your screen hours and reminds you to look away from the screen or simply turns off according to the designated schedule.
The teacher should have to pay more attention to what kind of sources are the students are using. They should tell them about the aspects that can lead them out off the track of their topic.
Last but not least, about students being smarter than their teachers in technology, well there is only one solution to this, teachers should go through specific courses to keep up with the intellectual level of the current generation.
We strongly believe that technology can do a lot good for our education than in the previous era. We have to use this tool wisely. We should be able to control it and not let it control us and our lives.
